Research Center for Science and Technology in Medicine (RCSTM) -the first research center in applied science and technology in medicine- was established in 1994 in Tehran. RCSTIM is located in Imam Khomeini hospital – the largest clinical complex in Iran- affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). The main purpose for establishment of RCSTIM is to provide the fundamental infrastructure for systematic collaborations between engineering, technology, research, medicine, and clinics. It contributes towards industrial independence in development of new medical devices and cutting edge technologies associated with domestic needs and demands. Fast expanding research in special clinical and technological fields necessitated establishment of two separate research centers, Research Center for Molecular and Cellular Imaging (RCMCI) and Research Center for Biomedical Technologies and Robotics (RCBTR) beside RCSTM to address the clinical needs and put the country among fast developing countries in the field of modern applied medical technologies.
